A new report says Ford will launch the next-generation Mustang in 2023 and a hybrid version in 2025.
"The next-generation Ford Mustang could be set to launch in the US in 2023 – and a hybrid version may arrive two years later, according to new reports.
Citing a recent, confidential multi-day Ford dealer meeting in Texas, industry publication Automotive News reports the next-generation Mustang (codenamed S650) is slated for launch for Model Year 2023 in the US, which would see it go on sale between mid-2022 and mid-2023.
A hybrid Mustang will reportedly follow in 2025 – the first electrified Mustang in the nameplate's history – and while Automotive News doesn't detail specifications (nor what engine will be used), earlier reports and patents suggest a large-displacement petrol V8 driving the rear wheels, and two electric motors powering the front axle, for 'e' all-wheel drive."
"It's also probably the Mustang Hybrid will be engineered for right-hand drive, given it will be required if Ford plans to continue selling the sports car in the UK, which falls under Ford of Europe's pledge to offer a plug-in hybrid or all-electric version of each of its passenger cars and SUVs by mid-2026.
Prior to the hybrid powertrain's arrival, it's likely the engine range will be topped by a revised version of the current Mustang's 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8, which develops 339kW and 556Nm in Australian-delivered Mustang GT variants, or 345kW/556Nm in the limited-run Mach 1. Six-speed manual and 10-speed automatic transmission options will likely to continue."
